AFAB Friendly RTC Options

I've been to see my GP today and asked to be referred for an autism assessment for Right to Choose. Apparently the GP will contact me with options...

  1. I'm AFAB (trans man) and mask fairly well.

  2. I have a historical diagnosis of bipolar disorder, but no hypomania for a decade. I'm considered to be in remission.

I had an assessment 11 years ago and was told I was basically on the borderline of diagnosis, but if they diagnosed me I'd be seen as too complex for CMHT given a dual diagnosis. They also mentioned I have a good relationship with my mother. I never received a report, just a diagnosis letter saying not autistic.

My life is more stable now. I used to isolate myself a lot and drink heavily. I now live with a partner who has also noticed a lot of autism traits and has encouraged me to go for a second opinion. I'm also struggling with masking and sensory stuff in work and feel that maybe if I can understand what's going on then I can advocate for myself better.

I was wondering if people could share some experiences and recommendations with Right to Choose options... Especially people on the SMI register and/or who are AFAB.

Thank you.

Any idea on phallo waits?

I was referred for phallo at the beginning of 2021 (they forgot to send the referral in 2020). I have received the general correspondence to imply I'm on the waiting list.

I was wondering if anyone knows who has been seen by the clinic (in terms of the year referred)? I'm having a hysto this year (hopefully), so not sure if there's a big wait between surgeries?

Is there a consultation and then another big wait for surgery?

Thanks for any advice.

Fueling with Shift Work

I'm a nurse who works shift work in a very busy service.

Although I'm getting back into running and not doing longer distances, I know in the past that fueling has been an issue.

I can struggle to find time to eat in work (yes, I know I have a legal right to a break, but trust me a lot of nurses don't get one and I try my best) and know that the longer distances I run, the more important fuel is for me.

I was wondering if people who work busy shifts had any tips on when they need to fuel more... Do you go with shakes, snacks or just get more creative?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hypermobility, Grip and Climbing

Hi there,

I have hypermobility syndrome and it impacts my grip, to the extent I need a device to open jars, I can get pain with overusing my hands etc

I was wondering whether any adaptive devices exist for people with difficulty gripping? Especially or bouldering/climbing? I have general joint instability, but day to day my grip is what makes things more difficult for me (my general pain isn't as bad at present).

Are there many people with hypermobility and/or grip problems who climb? I have spent so much of my life avoiding sports due to internalised ablism from school... I'm running now (not fast, but who cares?) and hiking. I love being outdoors and it benefits my mental health.

I'm honestly not sure where to look for equipment and I've never been in spaces to talk about this stuff.

Thank you for any advice.

I'd like to start training for marathon distance, however I have a likely have a hysterectomy due at some point later in the year (I'm a trans man). I have done half marathons before and I'm returning to running after a year's break. I don't have any events planned as of yet as due to my upcoming surgery and not knowing the date, I don't feel I can plan much. I'm not going to sit around and wait for surgery with regards to training. I just plan to get as fit as I can.

I was wondering what people's experiences were, running post hysterectomy. How was recovery and did recovery put you way back in your training?

I'm not seeking medical advice, I'd just like to know what happened to others, if they're comfortable sharing (or they can message me). I have no idea what to expect... I just feel happy to be in the place to run again and have a marathon on my list of things I want to achieve.

Thank you.
