Outdoor Weaving Using Many Types of Fabric. Weatherproofing?

I work at a preschool. Once class is planning on creating a weaving using fence posts as the warp. What is the best way to treat the fabric to have it survive outdoors? It doesn't have to last forever, but it would be nice to get a year out of it.

We will be using (generally) upholstery fabric donated from a local interior decorator and various quilting groups.
