Why isn't Hong Kong making movies like they did in the 80s-90s?

I am a filmmaker from India and I love Hong Kong. Someday I want to set up a production company there and make some quality movies and shows(set in Hong Kong)-already working towards that goal.

I always watch the films of John Woo, Jackie Chan and Wong Kar Wai and they make me feel all kinds of emotions and as you would know- Hong Kong is a character in itself in those films.

My question is what's happening today in the HK film industry? There have been recent well received films like Vulgaria and A Simple Life but....you get me right? It's just not what it was like back in the day- those movies inspired the world. Tarantino for example is obsessed with Chungking Express. So what's happening there with regards to the film industry? Any recommendations from you all- movies, TV shows, reality television set on the streets of Hong Kong...anything?

Cheers 🥂

My BIL is making less money for his age. Can you encourage him please.

Hello.

I am married and this is about my brother in law. He is 41 years old. He did not do well in his career with frequent gaps, failed businesses etc. Now he has a job in Delhi in a field he loves- arts. It's a night job but the pay is very low-45,000. He keeps looking at reddit and sees these subs where 27-28 year olds make 1 lakh a month and people his age easily make 2.5-3 lakh monthly. He has a lot of such posts screenshoted on his phone which he showed me(says it inspires him).

Now he has this job which starts in about 3 weeks. He has a wife, no kids, own house. My sister and I sent him to a week long meditation camp telling him itll clear his head before he starts so he won't be on this app/site for the next 5-6 days at least lol(they keep the phone). Hopefully I'll get the responses for two days and then delete this question.

I know it sounds weird but any advice you would give to let him feel better? I'll screenshot and maybe show it to him later. I told him that people on here are only like the top 5 percent of India and even then many just lie. 45k isn't even that bad considering it'll all be saved with minor expenses and he should focus on building a base. Above all else- unlike the corporate folks he will actually be in a field he loves. I know money is very important especially now, in a metro like Delhi but relationship at work, job satisfaction...all that matter too.

and just in case anyone asks no it's not me I am in the film line and have my own thing going. Actually I've never had a 9-5 except very early in my life when I did a call centre job. So I'm not in a position to answer him.

Any help appreciated.

Just give any advice even negative is fine. 41 years old earning only 45k/month when 28 year olds today make a lakh. Where's the silver lining?

If I want to show my face and do commentary is it a bad thing?

Hello.

I had made a post earlier. I am much older than most of you here and not very tech savvy. I want to create a youtube channel, show my face and just talk about my country's state of affairs and politics. I asked a few folks from the younger generation (not on this app) and they said:- Uncle full face commentary is 2014. Nobody does that in this day and age of fancy animations and well edited stories. You won't make any money and will expose yourself to society. Just look at Tucker Carlson- guy has 6 million followers and his videos get a million hit in 24-48 hours and yet his earnings are $8,432 to $11,551 in March(2026).

Now I must add I have an income source so it's not like I am dependent on YouTube but is it a bad thing to do a full face commentary in this day and age of amazing graphics and cool edits?

Also money wise even 200-250 dollars is good for me but if Tucker with 6 million followers and so much popularity makes 8k, I don't think I'll make 200 dollars before 2030!
