Hair algae

Hi everyone,

I have hair algae growing in the aquarium. What are your recommendations beyond cleaning it with a stick? I don't mind it, but some of them were getting stuck and it was looking unsightly. I bought duckweed online to suck up extra nutrients, but I'll try to keep the quantity low so as to not deplete the water.

What else should I do?

5 species community tank

Hi Reddit,

I'm a beginner shrimp-keeper. On Wednesday May 6th I set up a 5 gallon aquarium. The substrate consists of 4 parts sand to 1 part peat moss along with a spoonful of azomite. In the tank I have nauplii of five species, four fairy shrimps and one clam shrimp.

I have fed chlorella. I was given yeast so I'll try that tomorrow.

I have not seen anyone else try such a tank. I thought it would look nicer having a variety. The downside is I that won't be able to distinguish species.

I have a packet of triop eggs, but I didn't add it as I didn't want predatory behavior.

Let me know what you think and if you have any recommendations.

These are the shrimp species I added:
Streptocephalus thailandensis
Branchinecta packardi
Streptocephalus sealii
Sirindhornae
Cyzicus pilosus (clam shrimp)
