Pgwp approved in 18 days

Hello, I applied for pgwp April 24, 2026 and got the final decision msg on may 11 I was very anxious so I called IRCC and they told me my pgwp was approved. Waiting for the final decision.

All praise is to God!!!

Brutal waiting time as I had some hurdles with remarks on my study permit. But wasn’t an issue.

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to figure out whether I’m authorized to work while my PGWP is being processed, and my situation is a bit unusual.

My timeline:

  • My initial study permit explicitly had the standard condition that allowed me to work on/off campus.
  • Later, I applied for a study permit extension because my passport expired and i got a new extension.
  • My extension study permit did NOT have the work authorization remark printed on it. It also did not explicitly say “not authorized to work” — the condition was just missing.
  • During my studies, I remained a full-time student at a DLI, stayed in valid status, and completed an eligible program (4 year degree with no breaks, only scheduled ones)
  • I never worked more than the allowed hours when limits existed. (I Have a Valid SIN number due to CO-OP)
  • I never worked after completing my program before applying for PGWP.
  • I graduated and applied for PGWP on time.

Important detail: I worked during my studies while on the extension permit because I assumed I was still eligible since:

  1. My original permit had the work authorization condition
  2. I remained a full-time student at a DLI
  3. I had a valid SIN the entire time

Now my PGWP is pending and I did not receive a WP-EXT letter.

I called the IRCC call centre and the agent told me that because my most recent study permit didn’t have the work authorization remark, I’m not authorized to work until a PGWP decision is made.

But I’ve also seen people say:

  • permit remarks can sometimes be omitted by IRCC mistake
  • eligibility to work may come from meeting IRPR requirements, not just what’s printed on the permit

My main questions:

  1. Has anyone had a study permit extension issued without the work remark by mistake?
  2. Did IRCC ever raise unauthorized work concerns during PGWP processing?
  3. Would you stop working while waiting for a PGWP decision in this situation?
  4. Has anyone been approved/refused in a similar case?

I know Reddit isn’t legal advice — just trying to see if anyone has gone through something similar.

I spoke with multiple RCIC lawyers and all of them mentioned my previous work wasnt unauthorized because i met the IRPR criteria and was able to work and was not explicitly prevented from working. I also had a valid SIN number due to my CO-OP Work permit.
