Hi everyone,

I’m based in Canada and looking into importing wool/felt products from abroad, such as coats, bags, scarves, home decor, and maybe wool dryer balls.

I’m trying to understand what I need before legally importing and selling them in Canada, especially:

  • Do I need any special certificate, permit, or licence?
  • Are there textile labelling requirements I should know about?
  • Do wool products need flammability testing or any lab analysis?
  • Are there different rules for clothing vs bags vs home goods?
  • What documents should I request from the supplier/manufacturer?
  • Would a customs broker be enough to handle the import side, or do I need to do anything before shipping?

I’m not planning to sell children’s products or anything medical/health-related. Mostly adult clothing, bags, and home/lifestyle goods.

Any advice from people who have imported textiles into Canada would be appreciated.
