Where do I even start with this 1954 Atlas 3021 8” Tilt-Arbor Saw.

After years of watching my father neglect this, I’ve decided to see if I can restore it to working condition.

I’m hoping to get some idea of where to start the repairs, or if I should even make the attempt.

While it would be awesome to have my own tilting table saw (without the expensive price), I really don’t want to risk dismemberment by a tool that should been scrapped.

Hopefully, someone here can help me figure out if it’s safe to try repairing or if it should be going out to the curb.

Thanks in advance to anyone who replies!

Would fixing this be preferable to buying a new one?

So, my father has kept his tools in random boxes or just strewn around the edges of the garage. I’ve been meaning to get myself a router, and came across this one while grabbing trimmer string. I don’t even know when or why he put it there.

It’s a Porter Cable 1002 motor in a 1001 base. It does seem to be in ok condition from the outside. But… the motor is really stuck in there.

I’d like to know if I should break out the wire brushes and maybe some WD40 to separate them, or if that’ll make things worse. The power cord is also frayed near the top of the motor, but that seems like something a bit of electrical tape might take care of.

If anyone has any suggestions, I’ll happily take them. I would much rather not spend hours fighting a tool that may not be safe to use.

I’ll also be posting about an Atlas tilt arbor from the same garage soon.

Thanks again to anyone who reads this!
