How long will brilliant minds across our institutions continue to be lost like this?

Another tragic incident has been reported from IIIT Nagpur today (04/05/2026), where a second-year CSE(CSH) student passed away following an incident in the hostel premises during the early hours of the morning.

While full details are still emerging, the news has shaken students not just at IIIT Nagpur, but across campuses. Moments like these force us to confront some difficult questions.

●Are institutions truly doing enough when it comes to student well-being and mental health support?

●Are support systems actually accessible and approachable when someone is struggling?

Do students feel safe speaking up without fear of judgment or consequences?

This isn’t just about one campus , it reflects a broader issue that many students quietly face.

Academic pressure, isolation, expectations… it all adds up, and often goes unnoticed until it’s too late.

Would really like to hear perspectives from students across IIITs and other colleges:

●What has your experience been with mental health support on campus?

●What changes do you think institutions need to make at a structural level?

Deepest condolences to the family and friends. Hoping strength for everyone affected
