Hey everyone,

I’m working on a project where I’ve used quite a few samples (some obscure, some more recognizable), and I’ve been trying to look into sample clearance… but honestly it seems pretty complicated and expensive, especially for independent artists.

So I’m curious about real-world experience:

How common is it actually to clear samples in hip-hop, especially at the independent level?
Do most producers/artists just release music without clearing and take the risk?
Has anyone here actually faced consequences (takedowns, legal issues, losing royalties, etc.) from not clearing a sample?
At what point does it become something you really need to worry about (e.g. streams, label interest, etc.)?

I’m not looking for legal advice, just trying to understand how people handle this in practice.
