Rufous Hummingbird

This fellow stopped and hovered 30 feet in front of me for a couple seconds. I quickly snapped some shots without time to frame anything. Got lucky on this one.

First time seeing a Virginia Rail and babies (Western WA)

Not great pictures but it was all I could get before they hid in the tall grass. I first heard a bird I didn't think I had heard before. I used Merlin and it said it was a Virginia Rail. Based on the name alone, I wasn't expecting to find one in my area (western WA). :)

Once I saw the adult on the side of a creek, I snapped a couple pics before it flew into the tall grass. Then a little while later, a couple babies swam out from one set of tall grass to another.

The last pic doesn't show the baby well besides I thought its feet were impressively large. :)

Had posted this in Birdsfacingforward but not enough direct eye contact. :)
