Tonight I start my first true fighting game, Tekken 8.

I have spent years playing a bunch of sports, strategy, racing, action-adventure, and lately souls-likes games. But I have never gotten into true fighting games.

My go to "fighting" game is Undisputed but I am so sick and tired of it that I decided to pick-up a "real" fighting game. I decided on Tekken, so I bought the newest one, Tekken 8.

I have no experience with these type of games. I am hearing about frame counts, chickens, elos, and all kinds of things that I have never heard of. It's quite overwhelming.

I ask you savy experts, what is the way? Where is the best place to start? Is there some kind of academy or something like that to teach me the ways of all this? I'm trying to find a good path to success. I feel like I have to learn a virtual martial art. Please help.

I am new but I love narrative and lore.

I am a lifelong console gamer. I am mostly a single-player, kinda gamer. I love narrative and lore in my games. I'm a sucker for a good story.

I have always thought of the fighting genre as light on narrative and story. So I haven't really messed with it. I am starting my first fighting game tonight. I looked around and I decided to give Tekken 8 a chance.

But now I am finding out that the Tekken franchise actually holds the Guinness World Record for the longest-running video game storyline. Apparently the narrative has continued consistently since 1994 without any reboots or major retcons. It has just kept rolling for over 30 years.

I don't want to jump in and feel super lost story-wise. What is the best way for me to catch up and prepare myself to fully enjoy the story and lore of Tekken 8?

I just discovered The Empyrean series at Target right now.

I love collecting hardcover books. I am at my local Target and I came across these books. I've never heard of them or the author, and I have never read romantasy before.

But they are some of the coolest looking books I have seen. I am tempted to buy them. Should I? They are about $19 USD each right now.

New to Tekken. I am hoping Tekken 8 is the game to replace my old fighting game.

I love video-games, but I also love sports and martial arts. For many years now my go to fighting games were EA UFC and more recently, Undisputed. However, I've had a love/dislike relationship with them and lately I've just grown tired of them.

I am hoping to find a good alternative. I looked around and considered Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, and Tekken. I decided on buying Tekken 8 to give it a shot. I have high hopes that this game will take the place of my old go to fighting games.

I'm just not sure what to expect since I have never had a Tekken game before. I hate the combat in MK and I am not a huge fan of Street Fighter. I played SF5 years ago on 3DS and was not hooked. I hope I like Tekken better.
