How would fans have reacted?

I saw someone saying for point of comparison, S7 Dawn was S1 Buffy's age when she first got involved with Angel, and absolutely no one would have fine with her dating a two-hundred-years old, eternally 20-something vampire. Thoughts? Is it a fair comparation?

  1. I recall Angel's reasons for the break-up were largely presented through the lens of how Buffy is (negatively) affected by the relationship. I might be forgetting the beginning of Angel, but if Angel in Sunnydale was already in need to fullfil a separate life purpose in LA, for instance, that was mostly unexplored on S3 as a possible motivation.

Had he not broken up with her for the reasons presented, do you think he would've still lost interest eventually? For instance, because only she ages? I know some fans believe he was only interested because of her goodness/purity (and therefore, her youth).

  1. Being a Slayer, one could make the argument she has a very low life expectation, and things like aging and children become kind of inconsequential (most Slayers don't live long enough to have children), and that if betting on the likely scenario, she could've spent the short rest of her life with whom she believed was the love of her life. So, was Angel and everyone else just a bit too hopeful about her "getting to 50"? Or was that because she had the Scoobies' support?
