I’m looking for feedback on a potential career move and would appreciate outside perspective.

I’m currently a Paralegal Manager and have spent my entire career (16 years) in a law firm setting, all with the same firm. Recently, there have been significant internal changes, attorneys and staff leaving or being let go, including the attorney I supported. The environment isn’t toxic, but the dynamics have shifted, and I find myself feeling more neutral than engaged. Because of that, I started exploring other opportunities.

I now have an offer for an in-house role in a corporate legal department. The position is a paralegal role (no direct reports), and while the work is similar in nature, the area of law would be completely new to me. Compensation is essentially the same, and benefits are comparable, with the exception of a 401(k) match, which I do not currently have. The role is also fully remote, whereas I currently go into the office four days a week.

My main hesitation is about career trajectory and optics and how this move might be perceived. On paper, it looks like a step down in title but seems more lateral to me.
