Nursing grad perspective on medical scribing & clinical documentation

BS Nursing grad here 👋
Just sharing how much overlap there is between nursing training and medical scribing.

A lot of it comes down to clinical documentation and thinking in real time:
• Converting patient encounters into structured SOAP notes
• Strong grasp of medical terminology, abbreviations, and clinical shorthand
• Connecting symptoms with possible pathophysiology so charts actually make clinical sense
• Recognizing common disease patterns and typical management plans
• Training in speed + accuracy during clinical duty and simulations

Nursing school really forces you to think: assess → interpret → document, which is basically the core of scribing, just in a different workflow.

Good documentation isn’t just typing—it’s knowing what’s clinically relevant and capturing it clearly.
