Multi-room setup with 2 turntables and 3 zones — will this work?
Hey all, planning a WiiM setup and want to sanity-check it before spending the money on the Ultras.
The plan:
- Zone 1: WiiM Ultra → Technics SA-GX470 receiver (turntable connected to Ultra's Phono In)
- Zone 2: WiiM Ultra → Pioneer VSX-9300 receiver (second turntable connected to that Ultra's Phono In)
- Zone 3: WiiM Pro → Denon receiver driving bookshelf speakers with no turntable
What I want to do:
- Stream in sync across all three zones (easy, I think)
- Play either turntable and have it audible in all three rooms simultaneously
- Be able to swap which Ultra is the "lead" depending on which turntable I'm spinning
Questions:
Does this actually work the way I think it does? My understanding is I'd designate whichever Ultra has the active turntable as the group lead in the WiiM Home app, with the other Ultra and the Pro as followers, and the analog phono input gets digitized and streamed over Wi-Fi to the followers.
The turntable is wired directly into the Ultra's Phono In, and the Ultra's analog out goes to my receiver. When the Ultra is the group lead streaming to followers, does the source room itself also get delayed (so it stays in sync with the followers), or does the source room play in real-time with the followers running behind?
Can I freely swap which Ultra is the lead, or does that require tearing down and rebuilding the group each time?
Anyone running two Ultras with two turntables in a similar setup? any gotchas I should know about?
