Walk me through what happened with my car..? Intake camshaft + P0171?
Posted this over at FocusRS forums as well, figured I'd post it here and add to the P0171 repository for those that don't use forums anymore.
So, I reached out recently to my local Ford service center, let them know I was getting a check engine light. When the light was illuminated: battery, RPM, speedometer, everything on the dash flat lined.. The light would go off after a few seconds and once it did everything returned to normal and could drive my car, since I have an extended service plan I took it in a few days later, luckily I only had to pay $100 dollars for what appeared to have been close to a $5000 job.
The service center had my car for about 3 weeks, in the end, they told me the engine timing was off. Looking at the parts ordered and what was done, looks like they damn near replaced the top portion of my engine. I have the notes, luckily seems they were pretty through. After I got the service notes, I sat in my car perplexed on the amount of work they had to do, then later got home and came more to the realization of what work they did..
What the heck happened to this thing? Car has only about 45k miles on it, never launched, never tuned, completely stock, babied the shit out of this thing. I see other recent users implying intake camshaft issues and P0171 codes in this board (and Reddit), which is what the Service center saw was stored in the PCM when they got it, which worries me a little bit.
Guess one other thing I'll point out, is probably around 6-7 years ago I had the head gasket recall work done on it. Aside from that, these are the only two large work items that have ever been done on her.
Still just confused on how something like this could have happened.
