Hi all,

I am now owner of a Homeserver running Unraid - with docker Immich. What a great piece of software!

Now I am challenged by my next steps: How and if at all do I migrate my existing media into Immich, what are best practices?

My Situation:

• clean Immich
• Synology NAS: In folders sorted by year and month (2025/12) I have 80.000+ personal photos and videos (mostly shot with my DSLR cam)
• Synology NAS with Android Photos App: 5000+ media files backuped with Android Photos Synology App from two different phones (my partners and mine)
• Google Photos: those should be already same ones that I have backuped with Synology Photos

My questions:

• How can I import and still keep the seperation of my partners and my media?
• Would you import all NAS media (80.000+) right into Immich or rather link it as an external libary?
• Duplication check: Would you just import all files and let Immich check for duplicates? Or would you clean up all files before import?
• How should I import the media at all? Is immich-go the right way to go? Other better options?
• How do I handle future imports regarding Mobile Phone and DSLR? Do you import everything? Or do you only backup mobile media and keep those DSLR media in an external library?

I apologize, as some of the questions are being asked multple times, but in all discussions, I still have questions left for my indivudal situation.
