Story ideas keep propping up in my head. I'm trying to do a short story anthology. Funnel all my ideas into an anthology. Unfortunately, some of these short stories evolve and grow bigger into novel-size stories. The beginning of the story is the hardest because you need to figure out how to satisfy the audience before going all out. My next short story is based on a monster of Korean folklore described similarly to that of a Yacha from the Ŏu Yadam. Yacha is one of several Korean words for demon but it can refer to terrifying creatures in-general. In the Ŏu Yadam, there is a particular beast that appears human at first but upon closer inspection, it is covered in shaggy hair and is very huge like a giant. It wanders the forest like a ghost. It is so big it can grab a deer whole with one hand and tear it in half easily. Its face so terrifying a person is unable to stare directly at it. It is unsure if this is actually a monster or a god of the mountain. That said, gave me an idea. A fantasy short story where a sorceress investigates a giant man-eating shaggy beast that for some unknown reason terrorizes this lone tavern in the middle of nowhere. The story never identifies what this creature is but it does hint towards its identity in later stories I'm working on. I'm a fan of indirect storytelling. And when the creature is slain by the sorceress? It turns out... that beast was but a child. Its parent has awoken from slumber. The sorceress had awoken a god. And this goes into unknown horror territory. I've actually finished it... but the urge to expand it into a novel has returned. Oh noooooooo!!! Well that's me. What about you guys?
