I built an A/V 8-bit synth by hacking a Nintendo console, Eurorack or standalone?
I’ve been building an experimental device called Glitch Boy that turns the NES into an A/V synthesizer, and almost finished editing its demo, the one I just linked is still a work in progress so any feedback is welcome!
You can glitch the games (loaded from microSD) with its controls, or sync it to audio or MIDI for live show visuals, and also play the console emulated sound chip as a 4-voice chiptune synth. The voice parameters can be changed via MIDI CC as well.
The glitches are faithful emulations of hardware mods, and can also be controlled by CV.
The firmware is gonna be open so anyone can keep adding new stuff to it. It's based on the ESP-32.
Anyway I know this might be very niche, but I’m really excited about it and wanted to share and hear some opinions on it before I release it!
Especially wondering if people would be more interested in the Eurorack module or the desktop unit.
Let me know if you have any questions about it as well! :)
