I have a 2007 Cobalt that it appears the shift cable has disengaged . The engine is strong , the clutch plate is firm but it won't go in gear. The mechanic says it will cost more than it's worth to fix. I love the car but because of unforeseen circumstances I got to drive it legally for 2 days. Thoughts, offers, prayers, the mechanic says come get it. Please throw some thoughts at me .

It's a 5 speed manual shift.
