Millennials Are The Most Anti-Tipping Generation (Newsweek)

More and more studies are showing there is strong anti-tipping sentiment among the younger generation. Wonder how long that has to be the case before the restaurant industry realizes they're self-sabotaging.

What's your moderator pet peeve?

Don't have to get into details and its best we don't, but I'm sure as a moderator we've all run against things that crop up consistently that annoy or irritate us and I was wondering - what my fellow moderators run up against?

Hi there,

I just submitted a MCOC report regarding a matter. I do not intend to speak about the actual report, that would violate both rule 2 here and the general confidentiality of the report.

My question is this: If I have made a MCOC report, should I expect a response, or like normal reports, will I only hear back if they need further information?

A bit oldish but just saw this today and it hadn't been posted. Further movement in Canada to curtail tipping, in this case, several businesses in the Yukon abolishing tips and just paying a living wage to employees.

>"I believe that we should be ... relying on businesses to pay appropriately, and [having] it be in their business model," said Lee Manning, co-owner of Yukon Spa.

>Manning says this model also provides an opportunity for businesses to be more transparent on their prices.

>"People notice it when they get their bill," Manning said. "They're aren't adding the taxes and the tip, and [finding] all of a sudden your meal is, like, 30 or 40 per cent more."

>"People can't afford things like that," he said. "They need to know what they are spending when they go out."

Not the first time we've seen AirBNB hosts asking for tips, but I feel it's worth highlighting that AirBNB hosts set their own rates and anyone that sets their own rates and shouldn't be asking for tips. They do it putting their rates slightly lower than average so that they get people off the market, and then will try to get more from you with tips and junk fees. It's exhausting.

Last May, Quebec instated tipping rules which make them have to be calculated before the tax. The Quebec authorities have been getting a ton of complaints of businesses still not foollowing it.

"In May of last year, the CAQ government’s Bill 72 was put in place that made it mandatory for businesses to calculate tip amounts before the Quebec sales tax and Canada’s Goods and Services tax. As well, consumers must have the option to determine the tip amount as well as predetermined options and these options must be presented in a neutral manner that does not encourage the consumer to choose one tipping option over another."

Make no mistake: companies want this. Servers want this. Its just us that get screwed. Report them if you live in Quebec, the government is actively chasing them!

I have tried Firefox and Chrome, both on desktop and web, and in all cases, I am not able to dismiss the Reddit Cares notification. The item to hide the notification is not present on New Reddit and Old reddit still uses the modern notifications page.

These notifications were used to harass me when someone disagreed with me in an argument and while I can disable further notifications from that source, I cannot dismiss the current one that is on my account.
