I interpret tooru’s discussion with kaato as him basically telling her that memories and dreams are the only things that truly matter, the only things that in the end remain, he also makes fun of jobin for not having achieved his dream

What confuses me is him saying that defeat or victory mean nothing to the rock on the cliffs(which symbolizes him) this is objectively false because victory is directly tied to tooru achieving his dream, we also see that he gets really desperate when hes about to lose

So what do you think? Was he just lying or there’s some deeper meaning to what he is saying? Apart from this single piece of dialogue tooru’s charachter is pretty clear to me
