termination decision
i’m an estimator for a mid sized flooring contractor. i work on obviously pricing bids and ordering materials and setting up our guys with directions for layouts or new material/adhesive instructions.
we currently have a project out of state and sent 3 guys to complete about 6,000 sf of LVT and CPT. real simple job. i fucked up and ordered transitions for the flooring late and my shop drawings missed 2 doors for those transitions. our foreman out there lost his shit with me and cussed me out over the phone. whatever it was my fault so i air freighted the transitions which is arriving a day late. i get a call from the GC saying our foreman was not saying great things about our shop and me. that’s a problem. i can usually take the cussing and verbal abuse from the older generation jmen because that’s how they were taught and raised. but him embarrassing me and our shop to a GC we are trying to impress and keep on good terms with is a problem. my boss is already in the know of the entire situation and gave me the option to fire him after they come back. the whole thing started from my fault so i feel it’s not fair to fire him. he’s a great worker with a temper problem. other shops in the union warned us about his temper problem as well. what should i do?
