Was this real or just a hoax? I feel like I missed the hype.

I’ve been looking into these "mummified aliens" shown to the Mexican Congress. Was there ever an official confirmation, or was it proven to be a hoax? I don't remember much noise about it at the time, or maybe I just wasn't around during the peak of the discussion. What’s the final verdict on this?
