TV/Radio career help?

I need advice! F20

I’ve been working in Radio for the past 2 years on a FTC. Mainly as assistant producer.

My contract has come to an end and i’m now a freelancer. The company I’m at seems to have very little shifts, and if they do, they’re covered by freelancers who’ve been there longer than I have, or people on contracts.

My dream is to be a radio producer long term (i think), i like working with talent, and being in control of the show.

I’m only 20 so haven’t have the chance to try new and different jobs yet, but i’d also like to try TV.

I’ve got literally no experience in TV, and i’m in Manchester so i’m not sure if there is much around. I’ve emailed and emailed and emailed independent studios, people i’ve heard of etc but i’ve had no luck. This is the same with radio - i’ve been networking as much as i can but i don’t seem to be getting anywhere.

I come from a working class background so the financial stability with freelancing isn’t really working for me either. A FTC or permanent is ideal but I know in this industry it’s hard.

Things i’m into - I like doing socials content / being on the social side of things, love working with talent, in teams, i’d like to go to events etc.

What do i do? I’m stuck and i don’t know what to do.

As i’ve said i’ve networked, tried to use linkedin, tried to get my name out, but it seems so quiet atm.

Any advice helps - no one at work seems to get it?

Thanks :)
