Physics at SLO?

Hi! Our son is waitlisted for UCI Physics major + Chem eng minor. He's been accepted to SLO for Physics.

We visited SLO, and the vibe is amazing. I'm curious how the physics dept is in particular.

I went to UCLA as a transfer Physics major, and the experience was less than stellar. The professors were a mixed bag from great (10%), average (30%), mediocre (60%). Name recognition is probably the benefit to UCLA over other schools, but SLO is highly prestigious IMO. I don't want our son being miserable because of garbage research-minded professors, like I was.

We live in Long Beach, so UCI is preferred for proximity, but I'm already getting a negative vibe off of this sub versus SLO. I just wanted to hear from folks who attend UCI firsthand.
