Help with squab in need, not sure what to do. (Prague, Czechia)
I was at the park by my apartment and found a squab huddled under a ledge. Its parents were very upset. Loose dogs were chasing it and it was making noise and trying to fly back up to the ledge where the nest seems to be, but it can’t get off the ground. On top of that, it’s snowing lightly and will be below freezing tonight.
I got in touch with someone affiliated with the pigeon rescue who said to bring it back to my apartment for now because it needs help if it can’t fly, and contact their rescue, but they haven’t gotten back to me yet.
What do I do in the meantime? I haven’t given it any food or water at all. I’ve had it with me for about 30 minutes. I think he is from the same flock that hangs out near my balcony, the park is only a few minutes’ walk from my house.
It can stand, walk, and flutter. Looks clear eyed without injuries but obviously it’s terrified. I have it in a large square basket with a cover and can put it in a wire dog crate but want to give it some peace and quiet for now.
