[TOMT][movie] French arthouse film (60s?)

Please help me find a French arthouse film probably from the 1960s. My memories are vague and if I remember correctly there is no linear plot, rather scenes from the life of the main character.

Main character is a young guy, maybe a university student. I think he has semi-long brown hair.
I remember clearly the opening scene: this guy is explaining to other young people (other students?) how most people are walking incorrectly and it’s shown on the soles of their shoes: the abrasions on the sole are at the wrong place. He somehow connect this fact with some kind of philosophical theory.

Later he joins to political movements but I think he changes his perspective frequently. I think he also has a girlfriend but they argue a lot (?) and they’re not completely monogamous (not sure about this).

There are a lot of political and philosophical arguments in the film, like about communism, capitalism etc.

And of course, as it’s a French film, many cigarettes are smoked lol
