Year of the Horse
Hey there, I’ve been delving into some more explicitly political/protest songs over the past year, which I’m sure is bad way to cast a wide net for an audience (whoops).
I am genuinely looking for some feedback on the structure of this particular piece. One thing I keep coming back to is the idea of merging pop-song format with a more traditional American folk song. The way I’ve been attempting this is by carving out a typical V-C-V-C-B-C structure, but creating several variations of the chorus to mimic an evolving folk song. I’ve never been super focused on telling narratives, but maybe painting pictures of the concepts? I don’t know, does that make sense? does it sound super pretentious? Can a song be catchy if the chorus evolves so drastically? I imagine the bridge to have maybe tasteful keys or guitar solo, hence no lyrics during that portion.
Lemme know what you think, even if this is not your bag. Curious if there’s an audience for this kind of thing. Cheers.
