What's with all the rebates this year?

Is it me or are there way more rebates on packaged product this year?

Picked up 24 cans of Summerfest for $24 after a $10 rebate, and 24 cans of Surly's Throwback Variety Box for $32 after a $10 rebate. To top it off, my store gives roughly 5% back as store credit, which is another $3 towards my next purchase.

Also saw rebate offers for Bell's, Kona, and a few others.

I don't remember beer being this cheap.

I've been running for a long time and have finished a few 50ks, and one 100-miler (in 23 hours). At the end of the 100 miler I was absolutely obliterated despite a great training block with lots of strength training and several 70-80 mile weeks on similar terrain as the race. I didn't even have any major GI issues.

This leads me to think - what is it that separate the finishers from non-finishers at a race like the Cocodona 250? Is it training? Ability to sleep? Nutrition? Pain tolerance? Crew? Leg strength/muscle? Luck?

Seems there are so many more uncontrollable variables in a 250-mile race, where a super talented sub-2:30 marathoner bonks but a middle aged dude with a few extra pounds and 40-50mpw training finishes relatively intact.
