I can only recommend it, if you have the time.

The hotel accommodations are nice, I was put up in a really nice hotel right on the beach and so fancy I felt like my presence was lowering property values. They also provide a rental car, per diem, and best part you can just go straight to the utmb polar office and physically drop off your packet in person, and possibly put a few faces to the names Im sure you're all too familiar with from emails and such.

Just one note for anyone unfamiliar like I was: there are two airports in Houston, so dont just type in "national car rental Houston airport" on your gps and drop it off without checking where you are. Because then you'll be an hour away from where you gotta be with no vehicle.

Anyway yeah, if it's an option for you, do the Galveston thing. *Also the campus is huge so plan to be early for everything
