Canine Cognitive Dysfunction

Curious to know if anyone has dealt with CCD (sundowning) with their senior Akita? We have a male American Akita named Ryuu. He is 11 and will be 12 this Fall. Lately it seems like he is becoming restless throughout the night, constantly pacing and panting. I’ve done some in depth research on my own but wondering if anyone has experienced this and if there are any helpful tips. We currently have a prescription for gabapentin which we will give to him every once in a while if his restlessness becomes too much. I hate to give him medicine constantly though, but think we may have to start. Lately as soon as we turn off the bedroom light he starts panting and will sit right next to the bed until we get up. We give him water, let him outside etc but still does nothing. It’s also not just a simple 5 minutes and he lays down this can last for hours. At this point we are sleep deprived. So appreciate any helpful tips. Also, just want to add there aren’t currently any concerning health issues since his last vet visit.
