The Hidden War in r/SpellcasterReviews: Why Posting a Good Review Gets You Downvoted and Harassed
Two days ago, I posted a review about a caster who actually delivered what he promised. Results started manifesting in 3 days. Partner was back home by day 5. I was skeptical at first—my case was complex—but he handled it professionally.
The response since then has been absolutely wild. Rather than genuine discussion, my post brought out war, toxicity, and harassment from other casters. The sheer intensity of the downvote brigading makes it obvious that these are coordinated attacks by people using multiple accounts to silence competition.
I get that competition exists, and I'm not naive about how this subreddit operates. It's clear that some "spellcasters" here are using the exact tactics that have been documented elsewhere: creating numerous alternative accounts to manipulate conversations, sway the outcome of discussions, and most importantly, create a fake environment designed to steer people toward their own paid services while discrediting everyone else.
When I first posted, the downvotes came in waves within minutes. The comments were filled with baseless accusations, personal attacks, and individuals conveniently claiming that all other casters are scammers—except for themselves or their friends, of course.
Every legitimate review offering genuine help gets met with the same treatment: downvoted into oblivion by alt accounts, buried in toxic comments, and the OP is accused of being a shill. Meanwhile, the fake casters keep their threads alive through upvote manipulation and a network of sock puppet accounts.
I'm calling on the moderators of this subreddit to take a hard look at what's happening. Something needs to change:
Vet the people who are allowed to comment. One possible solution is to consider restricting commenting privileges to users who can demonstrate that they're genuine clients, rather than allowing every fake caster to "wild out" in the comment sections, tanking reviews for anyone who isn't in their little circle. At a minimum, the rules against harassment and spam need to be enforced more strictly.
Stop allowing bad-faith actors to use this space as their personal battleground for slander and client-poaching. Use Reddit's anti-evasion tools and be aggressive in identifying and removing coordinated voting rings.
Protect users who are just trying to share their experiences without being harassed. If a legitimate client like me can't post a review without being attacked, the subreddit has failed its core purpose. The rules state that "threatening/abusing the members will not be tolerated and permanently banned without warning," but that's clearly not being enforced if a single user can camp in my comments for days.
I didn't come here to start drama. I came here to share a success story after countless failures and scams. But the response I've received shows exactly why so many people are afraid to post legitimate reviews here.
To the genuine people just looking for help: Do your due diligence. Before you hire anyone, browse through the feedback and see if there are repetitive postings from the same users. Be aware that the war you're witnessing in the comments is often manufactured. Watch out for the fakes, because this subreddit is currently overrun with them.
Let's do better. This place is supposed to help people, not tear them apart.
