Since when is it okay to leave during curtain call?

I went to the 2pm Saturday performance of The Music Man at Gulfshore Playhouse and something really bothered me.

We were seated front row because my dad has impaired eyesight, so we had a clear view of everything. During the applause and curtain call, about a dozen or more people got up and left. Not quietly from the back, but walking down the aisle toward the stage, in front of the front row, and out the exit. I was honestly stunned.

I get why people do it, trying to beat traffic or avoid crowds, but it still felt really disrespectful. The performers had just given so much, and the curtain call is the moment where they are recognized.

As someone who grew up loving theater and self-confessed "theater kid", it was disheartening to watch. It takes maybe two more minutes to stay and show appreciation.

Am I overreacting or does this bother anyone else too? ICK.
