just finished tweaking a few presets on the HX Stomp for the upcoming gig (wish me good luck, it’s my first one after almost a year).

This is the signal chain:
guitar > tuner + wireless receiver (Xvive P58) > compressor (Wampler Ego Compressor) > HX Stomp mono input > 2 outputs (one to FOH, and one auxiliary in case I want to run an amp sound behind me through the return as an extra monitor for the other band members).

I use that dual switch to easily change between different presets depending on the song, without having to bend down lol.

Maybe it’s not the best setup, but I managed to get some great tones out of this simple rig.

Hey everyone. Sorry if this question sounds kinda dumb, but for months now I’ve been coming home frustrated and disappointed: how the hell do you actually sound good?

And I don’t mean “how to play well” in general, I mean specifically feeling good in the rehearsal room. I always get this feeling that something’s off. When I was younger and less experienced, I remember having some of my best rehearsal experiences… probably because I wasn’t as aware of my tone back then.

Now, ironically, I should be more precise, but I just end up hating everything I hear, and I’m not having fun the way I should.

The problem is we rehearse in rooms with absolutely terrible amps, and no matter how hard I try, I can’t get anything to sound decent out of my HX Stomp.

Maybe the problem is the heavy music? The room itself? What’s the ideal setup?

I don’t know why, but I’ve never really been a “single cut” guy. Guitars are such a weirdly magical thing, they just stick to you and you don’t even know why. Some of them resonate inside you, not just out loud, while others are simply unbearable to play.

I absolutely love the Revstar. It always felt perfect on me, and it’s one of those guitars you just can’t replace.

I bought it after falling in love with playing again, after a period where I hated anything that made sound. It was also the last one left in the shop, like some kind of twist of fate. Funny enough, Yamaha stopped producing that specific model, and it’s still pretty unique, especially with that finish that looks like it gets damaged just by staring at it.

The other one is a Hagström Megin, which I recently picked up because I wanted a beefier tone thanks to the humbuckers and honestly, I bought it purely for that kinda Silverburst-ish finish (a bit lighter, to be fair).

Do you guys have a favorite guitar? One of those that, even if it’s kinda unconventional, just “glued itself” to you?
