is anyone happy doing family law/any other “lower pay” law?

short and sweet today also got absolutely destroyed in the law school subreddit LMAO I should have expected reddit to be reddit. Pls take a deep breath this is just a question.

I wanted to get into law in undergrad but my (insurance lawyer) dad dissuaded me by telling me any law field i was interested in was not worth it due to lower salary. I understand where he is coming from with the steep student loans, but I want to see if anyone here has a new perspective. it is okay to agree just be normal about it! thank you!

My motives: i've always wanted to get into fields to help people. My background is in mental health and child development research so I’m trying to find that same satisfaction somewhere with more tangible impact, but honestly also higher pay than academia can ever offer me :/
