I Tried To Donate My Car, They Didn’t Want It
I’m sorry to come in here and complain, but I just needed to vent for a minute. You don’t need to read this. Just get along with your life.
Let’s just say I’m having some difficulties at the moment and to add to them, my car died.
It’s still runs, but it’s making some noises, some really bad noises, and the mechanic says that the engine is done for. It’s a 2010 Mazda MX5 Miata with over 200,000k miles on it and I’ve had it since it was new. I guess that’s a good run.
I figured, if I’m lucky, I could get $500 for it. Over the years many people have left notes that say basically, hey if you ever want to sell this, give me a call. Little 2-seater sports car with a manual transmission, I know they want to take it out to the track and have some fun with it. I figure, there’s a chance I could get somebody who is a gear head, maybe a father son project to put a new engine in there, something like that. But I just don’t have the bandwidth at the moment to advertise it and try and sell it. I don’t really even have a place to park in right now, and I just needed it gone.
Been listening to NPR for years and years, they’re always going on about how they’ll take your vehicle running or not, so I go to the website and let them know that I want to donate it. I fill out a couple pages of forms with all the details and hit submit.
I just got a call from the Make A Wish foundation, which is who actually takes the car, and she asked for all the details that I already provided on the web for form. Sigh. Then she put me on hold for a few minutes, before coming back to say they don’t want it. It’s too low of a value. She suggested some other places, scrapyards.
Alright, that’s it. Thanks for letting me vent. Though, I do want to apologize in advance for any future passengers in my car, when the NPR host starts talking about how they’ll accept my old car, running or not, as a donation, and I immediately go a little mental and start yelling at the radio. Thanks for understanding.
