Removing motor hum from old tape recordings

Hi, I have found a lot of old tapes from a flea market, and I would like to digitize them and clean them up. I have a super USB cassette capture recorder, which works fine for more modern tapes so I assume the "motor hum" I am hearing is on the tape iself. Here is a fragment of the redording:

I am using Ableton (or Audacity), when I choose to remove noise (in Audacity), it does a fairly decent job but the sound loses all "warmth" and sounds very tinny as in muffled.

Are there any techniques to removing this hum as much as possible? I do not mind if some is left, it is mainly used for sampling and re-use in songs.
