They finally fixed my outage issues... here's what they did

After not showing up for my first appointment last week or even calling to day they couldn't make it (I had to call them), they actually showed up to the scheduled appointment today, which was a big surprise for me. I was beginning to think Quantum technicians didn't exist, but they do! After digging through my yard they had found a splice in the cable that they say has gotten wet and corroded over time. So they redid the splice, put it inside a short PVC pipe and filled it with silicone so it can't get waterlogged again (hopefully). I had to show them the route the cable was buried as they didn't have a locator/tracer. And the wire is so thin that I doubt there's tracer wire inside the sheath anyway. Hey it's cheaper (for them) that way!

They also told me that they were short staffed and that there are so many new installs because ATT is offering "great deals". So that's why it's taking weeks to get a tech out to your place. The ATT deals are just TOO GOOD! /s They said they are working mandatory 6 days a week now.

Anyway, it's all back up and running 3.2gbps up and down. Just make sure that if anyone makes splices in your cables, they secure them with silicone and not just leave it open to the elements like the original tech who installed me apparently did.

Like a few others here, I have been experiencing the consistent blinking blue light on my NID. Usually there's no lights on the fiber optic jack, but suddenly the red one lit up on channel B. Maybe because it's cold outside? Not sure.

I was scheduled to have a technician show up on Monday. They did not show up at all. They did not call. I was the one who had to call Quantum and ask "Why didn't the technician show up today" in order to reschedule. Quantum told me that they are understaffed. Either they are extremely cheap and therefore can't find good help, are a horrible employer with a high turnover, just outright incompetent or a combination of those three options. I will be surprised if anyone actually shows up on Saturday and I'll be even more surprised if they fix it. And I'm not confident that fix will last long.

For an internet service to be reliable, it needs to work mostly without interruptions. And when an interruption happens, it needs to be resolved quickly. Therefore Quantum Fiber is not reliable. Even Comcast was better geez I hate saying that.
