Me and my roommate were rewatching Donnie Darko and noticed a confusing moment that we noticed others hadn’t touched on. During the final segment that revealed the Manipulated, we see each of the Manipulated wake up(like Sparrow’s book says) EXCEPT Drew Barrymore’s character who seems to be sleeping almost unbothered by the events of the story unlike the other Manipulated who awoke in fear/stress including her lover/coworker who also checks on her. Is he checking that she felt the same feeling as well? We feel that this character perhaps has a far more significant role as a manipulated living or maybe is more powerful or has more control than the other manipulated livings, which is why she stays asleep almost like she is content with what happened or like she already knew it was going to happen. Is there more depth to this character that needs to be explored? Is there more significance to her staying asleep or was it nothing? Does her involvement as executive producer imply anything?
