Would anyone be interested in a directory to help growth and discoverability? I could add it to my newsletter writing workspace. We all want to make money. I’m going to be writing about it all here https://newsletter.danielclayton.me, my only focus is growing a newsletter and building a business around it making products. Will be sharing everything I learn. The biggest learning I’ve had recently is using a lead magnet to get 26 new subscribers in 2 days by posting it under one post on X as a reply. If you want help on building a lead magnet let me know, I’ll show you exactly what I did

Growth for new and old. Shill me your newsletters…

Also looking for some recommendation swaps if it makes sense for both publications.

Let’s start a list of newsletters here, it’ll be useful for all involved.

Was sick of drafting in various Google Docs and random notes everywhere

Built this workspace to have everything in one place. You may find it interesting if you like to draft by comparing sections side by side. You can use it for free. Would appreciate any feedback. I’ve got a lot more features coming

Honest assessment on apps?

Just launched a newsletter tool, so I’m focused on marketing that currently.

Been curious about mobile apps for a while.

See a lot of success stories, what’s the game actually like for people that have tried other models like SaaS for example?

From idea to decent MRR? How challenging?

I first started a Newsletter on Substack in 2021 (an AI newsletter before half the globe’s population had an AI newsletter). I published 13 issues then dropped off, I think for no other reason than it was a 2 part issue after an interview I did with an AI game dev, and the second issue just seemed hard to get right, and it just faded away. That was on Substack.

I started a new newsletter about a month ago on beehiiv. After 5 years, a lot of learning, becoming a coffee shop manager and a fire fighter, I’ve now quit everything to go all-in with self-employment (after getting zero traction in the job market). There was a certain moment when I was faced with two paths, jobs or my own projects, I only have a certain runway so I had to do one of them 100%. So in late February a tarot reading (which I did myself), was unequivocal, go all in my own direction. I bought the cards after some YouTube tarot videos were giving me some relief and hope from some pain I was going through. After a few different ideas, some trial and error, I needed to find one thing to really focus on and that ended up being the newsletter. I go into the reasoning behind it in the newsletter itself. The first few weeks I was getting the process right and getting into a rhythm of writing, publishing, distributing. My main approach has been positing on X for growth. It’s been slow so far. 2 subscribed, then 3 the next week, then last week it doubled from 5 to 10.

How have you found growth and what’s worked?

I’ve started posting on YouTube as well, video versions of the newsletter issues.

And later on I’m going to do a livestream to go through some of my process as I keep refining my workflow. I’m going to write issue #5 live on stream, and show the tool I’ve built to help me write better. I’ve been using Obsidian and Claude code to build a knowledge base/second brain all related to the newsletter.

If anyone is interested in joining the livestream I’ll post the link. I’m not expecting many people so it’ll be a good opportunity to have good chats about newsletter growth, process, and how to offer maximum value, and anything else related.

Could be worth it especially if you’ve just started a newsletter recently. Or been doing one for a while and looking for a relaxed space to share some ideas, and find out what other people are doing.
