Hoping I get bumped. What would you do?
So I actually *want* to get bumped. I have a flight from LAX-JFK departing 7:00am tomorrow with an onward connection to Europe 8 hours later lol. I also have a an SWU (expired back in March) applied to the trip which hasn't gone through unfortunately.
I'm kind of really dumb for choosing the second earliest departing flight to JFK on a beautiful spring day when there are a handful of other flights with plenty of time for a connection, many of them with SWU availability. so in this case I was thinking of doing a PP same day change to one of the later ones.
However this morning the app asked if I would consider taking over $1000 to be bumped to a later flight, which I absolutely would. I honestly wouldn't even mind getting some me time at LAX (lol that sounds weird) and could get into the Qantas First lounge which I've never been to before. I checked how many seats I could buy on the plane and it looks like they are currently allowing three economy seats for sale but not four (they have one J available if booked separately). The flight I *really* want (which leaves five hours later lol) has at least 9 seats for sale, same with a bunch of other flights at a more reasonable time.
What are the chances my 7am flight will be overbooked and I'll get bumped to a later flight with a $1000 credit? If you were in this situation would you wait it out and hope for the best (being bumped) or would you just call in to do a same day change now? Or any other way to play this?
Thanks in advance for all your experienced advice, here's hoping none of you get bumped... unless if you really want to 😉
