campus tax resources for grad students??
hello hello...I'm sure this may be a dumb question (and I did sort through other posts looking for tax professionals) and the whole conundrum may make me sound like I live in la la land. Basically I'm a lower-income grad student in a bit of a mess and in over my head understanding and process wise. My dad recommended seeing if financial resources on campus may be able to help or that there may be someone who works as a CPA that could see this and be available.
I was notified that my taxes this year weren't able to be filed because my taxes last year "weren't reconciled" and now I'm freaking out that I'm delinquent and in trying to dig realized I just don't know what to do or where to start and need to work with an accountant or tax expert to sort through the last couple years.
I, of course, keep all tax documents and my filings are pretty straightforward--one or two jobs, no investment accounts, this past year I did a menial amount of freelance work.
Does anyone know if this is something that graduate financial resources could help with or do I just need to bite the bullet and find a CPA? If so--any recs?
Secondly, is it appropriate to ask for a quote for this kind of thing? I'm just trying to figure out if I'm going to end up paying hundreds or ...thousands? to get this sorted out.
