Easy counterargument to make on joining the Euro
The amount of times I hear "I don't want to rejoin because we would have to join the Euro".
Why? I always ask them, and believe it or not, I never get a straight answer.
There *is* an argument to be made for independent monetary policy - it certainly has some benefits. But the biggest and most obvious counterargument we should be making is that EUR interest rates have been nearly 2% lower on average than that of the GBP's since 1999.
That means, joining the EUR would materially lower your mortgage payments, practically overnight. And who can really argue with that as interest rates are the highest they have been for near 2 decades.
Ask them how many hundreds of pounds a month "independent monetary policy" is worth to them.
