In 12-step program; trying to define Buddhist "higher power"
I recovered and have been free for 40 years from heavy drug and alcohol addiction, thanks to AA. And I'm now dealing with food addiction in another 12-step program (Food Addicts in Recovery, FA).
And it's harder than alcohol and drugs. Can live daily without those two substances, but I have to eat.
I totally agree with what a speaker shared in an online meeting today that it's a spiritual malady that keeps me tied to whatever addictive behavior I'm exhibiting.
And a relationship with a "higher power" can overcome this behavior, BUT I don't relate to what many call "GOD."
I practice many Buddhist practices - currently using Joseph Goldstein's YT vids; thank you, JOSEPH!
I'm writing this seeking any helpful advice on how I can maintain/define/communicate with a Buddhist "higher power."
Especially appreciative for any 12-step member replies.
