[MBP 16" 2021, A2485] No signs of life after a successful first boot and closing the bottom lid with screws??
Hi all, I'll be as detailed as I can be.
I replaced my keyboard with the backlight and all was working perfectly on my Macbook Pro after a repair job (only swapped the keyboard and backlight out, but broke Touch ID ribbon cable in the process so I ordered a new one to use only as power button (touch ID isnt working anymore)). I'll state when i tightened all the screws as tight as they could go on power button with the metal plate, the button wouldnt press, so I left those 4 screws on the button just a bit loose, and it worked fine to depress and let the button rebound like normal.
I put in 2 screws to hold the bottom panel on, plugged it into a charger, did first boot, tested everything and everything worked flawlessly! I removed my fingerprint from settings, I lock the screen and test the new power button and it works fine. I turn the machine off via shut down in the top left menu bar. I thought it was a job finished. I turned it over, and put it almost all the screws but was really struggling to put one of the long screws in the top right (it kept going in crooked). I took off the bottom panel again, put the screw in just the hole to ensure the threads werent ripped in the screwhole and that it was fine. It went in fine.
I put the back panel back on, manage to get the screws all situated in their respective screwholes, and now I go over to press the power button on my macbook pro? Nothing. 0 Life. I plug in the charger (magsafe and I've tried all the USB C ports) absolutely zero life..
I've tried:
- Holding Power button for 10 seconds without or without chargers
- SMC reset (ctrl+shift+option+power)
- Reseating magsafe connectors
- Reseating ribbon cable with its large screw
- Leaving battery unplugged all night, then tightening it again and trying to turn it on next day
- Checking that all connections look fully plugged in
I'm at a loss on what happened. Did I short something when I tested that screw in the screwhole? I have a multimeter, soldering iron, and am fairly technical if anyone has any recommendations on where to test on the board for any potential problematic components/areas.
Thanks guys.
