Gen Z obsession with everything Y2k
Anyone else find it unusual? Like not in a bad way. I love that they listen to our music. But like it seems so weird to me? They love early 2k AND late 2k really. I am a Zillenial and went to college late and everyone there just loves y2k so much. They invite me to y2k parties and I went a few weeks ago and im telling you the club was packed and they knew all the lyrics too!! Like they weren't playing around.
Today I was on the bus with a bunch of highschool kids probably 16-18 and they were showing of their spotify playlist and its all 2008/2009 dance music?! I was honestly shocked but also loved it cause even more ways to relate to them.
But the more i think about it the more weird I find it? Im comparing myself to what I listened to when I was their age and it was def NOT anything that was playing in the 90s. I and all my peers (correct me if im wrong?) Thought that ish was OLD and for old people. We were listening to fresh new songs, everywhere. At the club, at home at school. Throwback were 2000s songs and the ones who went further back were NICHE. Like those who listened to 90s music were niche listeners, not mainstream. All the kids I remember we always looked out for whatever thr latest was — katy perry, gaga, kesha, Beyoncé, nicki minaj. Ain't no way we were caring about Celine Dion lmao.
