Can this be fixed, and if so, how?

Hi there! So I picked this up mid-row and started purling instead of knitting, and then my dumb ass thought I had been working the wrong way (but I think I actually just put it down during a knit row). Naturally, instead of trying to figure out what was actually going on, I started moving stitches around and ended up with this monstrosity.

I’ll just start over if necessary, but since the cast-on is 284 stitches, I’m hoping it’s possible to save myself a few hours. It’s just stockinette so far worked back and forth on long circulars. I think everything outside the pink lines in pic 1 is still okay and has the right number of stitches.

Thank you in advance for any help!

(PS It’s only pinned to save you from seeing my chewed-up nails)

Help with adapting pattern from sport to fingering?

Hi there! I'm sorry that this is surely an annoying question, but I'm hoping someone can help me make sense of how to convert a pattern designed for sport weight to fingering weight. I've never used a different yarn weight for something where the sizing of the finished piece matters.

This is the pattern, and I want to use Knit Picks Hawthorne Fingering for it instead of sport weight.

Do I need to try to hit the pattern gauge using larger needles and then follow the stitch counts as written, or do I not try to hit the gauge and instead convert the pattern stitch counts to my gauge?

Mom wanted a frog hat for protests. I’m new to hats and not very good, so I kept it super easy.
