Yeah, I've been slacking. But I'm back! For now. Anyway, here is something condensed and heavy, but also gestural and flowy, based on a line of calligraphy from an old writing manual.

In light of recent conversation, we will have this binding poll to adjust or not adjust our current rule 2, regarding gatekeeping. It currently states that genetic makeup of dogs may only be disputed if OP specifically inquires such.

Should this rule be changed so that breed purity may be brought up and discussed anytime?

Hello dear BMC enjoyers, we (the 3 mods of this sub) need to discuss some stuff with you, the community. Specifically, gatekeeping.

It is an obvious fact to anyone who frequents this sub, that a lot of brown dogs with black muzzles get posted here whose BMCness is... questionable.

Our current "No gatekeeping" rule, which states that people can only dispute breed when explicitly asked, is in place as the result of a democratic poll held 3 years ago.
As of late, it appears that the general sentiment has shifted, and that people are more keen on keeping this sub specific to actual Black Mouth Curs with papers or genetic testing to prove itt.

I believe it is time for another referendum. The choice would be the same as last time:
"Allow any 'that's not a BMC' comments", or "Allow 'that's not a BMC' comments only when explicitly asked by OP". But are there alternatives to these rules that we could explore?

And to what degree could/should people be required to make sure that the dog they are posting here is in fact a Black Mouth Cur? Do we mind the Beagles and Pitt mixes?

Please feel free to submit any thoughts and opinions below. Keep it civil, this is an Internet forum about dogs, not Verdun.

Note: this is not yet a poll, just discussion.

EDIT: All opinions and discussion is welcome, but what would be particularly valuable is suggestions as to actual policy and actual enforcement method.
