can we actually give tia and tamera mowry their flowers for being disney legends

ok im making this post because after having a whole discourse about disney channel legacy, ive realized we dont talk about tia and tamera mowry nearly enough. they deserve way more love than they get in these conversations.

for context, twitches was literally the only halloween movie i was allowed to watch growing up. my family was pretty strict about spooky stuff but something about twitches passed the vibe check. and honestly it was perfect because it wasnt scary, it was magical. it was two black twin girls discovering they had powers, finding each other, and saving their kingdom. it was joyful and cozy and the stakes felt real without being terrifying. every october that movie was my whole personality. and then twitches too came out and somehow was even more of a moment.

but thats not even the beginning of why i love them. ive rewatched sister sister multiple times, not just as a kid, but as an adult who understands now how foundational that show was. the writing, the chemistry, the humor, the way they made being black and being sisters and being teenagers look so fun and so warm. its still one of the best family sitcoms ever made. and i watched tamera on the real religiously. she was so sharp and so funny and so grounded on that show. i still watch compilations of their reality show together. i just cannot get enough of these women.

which brings me to something that genuinely bothers me. the hate for tamera is WEIRD and its unfair. people try to act like shes the "white twin" and tia is the "black twin" which is horrible to both of them but especially to tamera. its rooted in this idea that choosing to marry a white man means shes less black or less real, which is completely ridiculous and reduces her entire personhood to who shes married to. tamera is grounded, sweet, kind, and has been consistent as a person for years. the idea that there is some kind of ongoing beef between her and tia is also entirely made up. theyre sisters. theyre close. they literally went through the exact same industry experiences together and have always backed each other. people inventing drama between them is projecting their own issues onto two women who have very clearly loved each other their entire lives.

beyond my personal attachment, tia and tamera have had MASSIVE careers. sister sister ran six seasons. they hosted the real for years and won an emmy. they acted across multiple platforms. they did hallmark movies. they had brand deals and clothing lines. tamera just did a whole lifetime christmas movie cycle. tia has been doing acting and production work consistently. theyve been working for thirty plus years and they keep going.

and the thing that makes them different from a lot of disney alumni is theyre not bitter. theyre not complaining in interviews about being snubbed. theyre not making their legacy a fight. theyre just living. which is actually a kind of power thats rare in hollywood especially for black women who faced real barriers. they chose dignity over discourse and kept building.

they should genuinely be in the conversation when we talk about disney legends. twitches alone gives them real disney credibility that deserves to be honored. and when combined with their broader careers they are arguably more qualified for that kind of recognition than a lot of the names that usually come up.

so this is just me saying. tia AND tamera both deserve their flowers. stop pitting them against each other. stop acting like tamera is less than just because of who she married. and stop pretending disney channel history doesnt include them. it does. and theyre beautifully hearted people who deserve better from us.

if u grew up watching twitches too, drop a comment so they know theyre loved even if theyre not demanding it from us. 💖

Selena Gomez is the actual data point for Disney's music investment bias, not Miley Cyrus

okay hear me out cuz i feel like this needs to be said.

everyone keeps framing raven vs miley like miley unfairly got the music machine disney never built for raven. but miley actually IS a vocalist. she has real range, shes won a grammy, and shes been building a music career for like 15 plus years at this point. like her talent is real. so saying she only got her disney legend status cuz shes white kinda flattens what she actually did with her career.

selena is the one nobody wants to talk about tho. selena got the FULL disney music machine. wizards of waverly place for four seasons, the movie, the spin off. a record deal. selena gomez and the scene. full tours. the whole promotional apparatus. disney invested heavily in building her as a music artist. and she has openly said shes not a strong vocalist. her career is literally built on styling, image, likeability, and production that works around her vocal limitations. thats not me being mean, thats just what her own interviews say.

so if disney was willing to build an entire music pipeline around selena's limited vocals, they absolutely could have done it for raven if raven wanted it. selena is literally proof that vocal talent wasnt the gatekeeping factor.

which means if the actual conversation is about disney's bias in music investment, selena is the receipts. not miley. selena got more investment relative to her actual vocal ability than basically any other disney star. thats the real disparity.

the reason nobody brings her up is obvious tho. selena has lupus, shes been open about her mental health, she had a kidney transplant. theres a protectiveness around her and i get it. those are serious things. but if we're protecting selena from the critique while piling on miley for the same supposed bias, thats not actually a fair analysis. thats just choosing who its socially acceptable to target.

raven defenders have been looking at the wrong artist this whole time. if u actually wanna talk about disney's music machine bias, selena is the conversation. not miley.
